Organic Elements
If you want to connect your living space to nature you have a few different options. From your couch to your ceiling fans, you have lots of options to explore.
The most obvious choice would be the use of natural materials. Deep beautiful hardwood furniture has a striking visual impact so long as it is well maintained. Make sure you get rid of stainless steel and plastics and replace as much of it with hardwood as you can. If you are going to have metal in your living space you should stick to wrought iron because it has a slightly more organic look to it and pairs well with natural wood.
Natural fiber pillows, upholstery and blankets are beautiful. This is an area where you need to spring for high quality. Natural fibers are usually quite coarse until they are worn in properly and cheap materials/furniture will definitely be less comfortable. I suggest only buying furniture that you can sit in and try out before you buy it. This way you can feel the fibers and see it it’s going to be comfortable.
Grow some plants. It’s not hard to grow plants indoors. With just a little research and the right growing conditions you can have beautiful greenery. You need to make sure that the plants aren’t toxic to animals and children if you plan to have those around. There are a lot of common plants that are actually quite poisonous. One surprising source of beauty and color are hot pepper plants. They will produce pods in amazing colors, they are edible (If you like a little pain) and aren’t toxic to animals or children.
Lastly, try to get shapes with organic influence into your space. Look for items that replicate the natural curve of a tree’s growth patterns. Get flush mount ceiling fans that have leaf like blades. These are not only beautiful but are also more efficient than normal ceiling fans with lights at moving air and cooling a room. That way you can save a little energy, stay cooler in the summer and look love your surrounding while doing it.
